Itziar Garate Lopez

Last school year Filetdor & Catalineta were named. However, we were not alone in this process. Around 25 Spanish proposals were sent to the national jury and only three could be selected. We joined to another 600 proposals from around all over the world. Only 20 achieved it!

The Basque proposal, Gar + Su, led by Itziar Garate & Jose Antonio Caballero was succesful too. We wanted to know how they lived all this adventure. Itziar told us in all detail!

Itziar obtained her PhD. at Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU). Previously, she got her Bachellor’s degree on Astrophysics at Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) and a Science & Technology Masters also at UPV/EHU. After her PhD thesis, she worked at Centre National d’Études Spatiales (France) and nowadays she teaches at UPV/EHU. In addition to her academic duties, Itziar studies the atmospheres of rocky planets, especially Venus and its polar vortex.
