Es Nostro Cel contest (2nd Edition)

At 10h in the Teatre Principal de Santanyí, Sebastià Barceló led the 2nd edition of the Es nostro cel contest. It combines arts and science with the flavour of our Islands. The Theater was completely full of students from CC Bisbe Verger, IES Mossèn Alcover, IES Joan Alcover, & IES Santa Maria d’Eivissa. We noted that students from Ibiza, Manacor, and also everyone who wanted followed us at our Youtube channel: Es nostro cel: 1r Aniversari Catalineta i Filetdor. Curs 23/24

In addition to the acknowledgement of the support to name Catalineta & Filetdor, Sebastià noted that the Milky Way already has thousands of known exoplanets waiting their new names.

Each group during the defense of their proposal

Only eight of thirty initial proposals could defense their proposal in the Theater. Their themes were as diverse as their peculiar stellar systems, comparable to these accepted at NameExoWorlds 2022: Literature, geography, meteorology, gastronomy, festivals, traditions & local mithology were present. But… Which of them was the selected one by the audience?

Salvador reading na Filet d’Or

During the contest, we enjoyed the play of the folktale Na Filet d’Or by Salvador Miralles, the well-known Majorcan actor. He told us this wonderfull story as it was written in his heart. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Itziar Garate Lopez, chair of the Gar+Su proposal being interviewed by Sebastià Barceló Forteza

Moreover Itziar Garate explained her adventure to name «their» stellar system with basque names, Gar & Su. Furthermore, she delighted us with her research about Venus atmosphere and how the hellish twin of Earth can be a candidate to host life.

The artistic award went to «Cales de Mallorca» proposal
The popular vote went to «Els dimonis» proposal

The local imps were the audience’s choice to be representative of our cultural festivities and traditions both here on Earth and high in the night sky. In fact, the winner team and all students from IES Joan Alcover celebrated it in style!
