Contest at Teatre Principal

The 18th of november we met at the Teatre Principal de Santanyí to choose which would be the proposal we will send to the contest at NameExoWorlds 2022. If you couldn’t be live or watch it online, the full event is now available on our YT channel: Es nostro cel. Teatre Principal de Santanyí.

First of all, Sebastià presented the project Es nostro cel. In addition, he explained the details about the detection and characterization of stellar systems. After showing the results of previous NameExoWorlds contests, the floor was given to the students to defend their proposals: Seven groups of high-school students from Col·legi Bisbe Verger had related the characteristics one stellar system with the oral tales from Balearic Islands, known as Rondaies. Each group defended its proposal, trying to convince the audience to vote it.

One of the advantages to live stream the contest is that everyone could vote its favourite proposal from everywhere. A second one was enjoying the wonderful science monologue by Daniel Guirado from Granada.

After the votes, we knew the will of the people. The winning group formed by Daniela, Ian, Jaime and Jimena convinced us with their excellent defense. Congratulations to the four of them!

In that way, our proposal to NameExoWorlds 2022 was born. Thanks to all our supporters, it came true: the WASP-166 system was named after the heroines from the Majorcan folktale Na Filet d’Or. Please, see the Es nostro cel Proposal for more details.
