Observing Hydra

At 08/12/2022 some of the Balearic astronomic associations tried to observe Hydra, WASP-166 constellation but the cloudy sky did not let us see Hydra. In any case, we could enjoy Lunar occultation of Mars! We will try to observe Hydra again!

In fact, we observed it at 30/12/2022. Using the piggyback technique, we took a picture of most of this constellation. We also noted the Beehive cluster at Cancer constellation. However «our» star was not observed because of the cirrus clouds.

At 18/02/2023 in Sant Joan, fifty people attended Tomeu Mas’ talk about our outreach project. Just after that we observed the winter constellations.

One month later (18/03/2023), the astronomical associations and educative centers wanted to observe Hydra from all the different Balearic Islands. Once again clouds were there but we met in Montuïri to point to Venus, and to the brightest stars (such as Sirius, or Regulus). In addition, we spotted the chinese and the International Space Station. About fifty people from IES Mossèn Alcover and IES Joan Alcover enjoyed the astronomical and cultural knowledge of Pep Marcús.

The following night (19/03/2023), skies were clear and they gifted us this view from Formentera. Can you see Hydra?

Hydra is WASP-166 home constellation…, or rather, Filetdor‘s home. You can see the star as the brightest dot in the following pictures. Just in the middle!
